Salome New Year's 2012

Do you really want to go into the city tonight for some overpriced simulacrum of fun? Manhattan is all about the past, but Brooklyn is about the FUTURE! And NYE is all about the future!

Miss Darcey Leonard, the high priestess of Club Salome just reminded us that in the future — of which tomorrow will be the first day! — people will communicate not with words but through dance!

Does this make the DJs deities of a sort? Possibly. Anyway, this is why Salome, which bills itself as a psychic club, will usher in the New Year tonight with a litany of musical and visual entertainments designed to chip away any paradigms (pronounced para-dig-ums) that may have encrusted around the gears of your thought-processing machinery during the past 12 months.

At 11 pm, the BXDC (Baltimore Experimental Dance Collective) will transpose into synchronized rhythmic discourse the voice and distortion pedal-modulated music of Bethany Dinsick. And, an hour before that, the Psychosoma Movement Laboratory will break out the improvised moves to guide your 2012 self into the afterlife, using the music of L.A. sound collage artist Jimi Cabeza De Vaca.

And, if you get there earlier, you can enjoy the accordion and melodica sounds of Brazilian duo Lipsen and Daniel, as well a psychedelic spins from DJ Kvn and Brazil’s DJ Enola.

Oh, and at midnight, John the Baptist will be beheaded, and Salome will shoot fireworks from the rooftop. Salome is located at 142 Stockholm St. Apt. 401.
