You wouldn’t think of Bushwick as a dog friendly place and you’d be right. That still hasn’t stopped some of us from giving it a shot. Stomping down hot pavement, littered with broken glass and dirty chicken bones, I’m sure my furry son reminisces about the old days when we lived by Prospect Park. Oh the times we had, *sigh*.

I still try to stay hopeful about our new home and there have been some changes. There wasn’t a pet shop closer to me than the other side of Bushwick Avenue until a couple months ago. After about a year of me saying “there should be a dog store at The Loom Shops” there is one, so you’re all very welcome for that. The place isn’t exactly big-dog friendly, more like a boutique, but it’s a start.

Duke and Adam

A while back, one of my homiest of homies told me about a dogpark that is supposed to be put on Irving Ave between Starr & Suydam St in 2011. Built in Hernendez Park, it would actually be like an animal corner, fenced in with its own entrance, away from the adjoining baseball field.

More than two years later there is still no ‘dog run.’ No reason to count it out just yet, but if we have early snowfall this year it’s not happening.

Not that this really matters to me since I have an eighty-pound Pitt Bull that, as far as some are concerned, is a violent killing machine who feeds on the tears of the innocent and rusty nails.

To close let me say that if you don’t pick up your dog’s shit you are a bad person. That’s right, I said it. You probably listen to Coldplay and I hate you. Shout out to my dog, Duke, and Pine Box with their fancy ass Bloody Mary’s.
